Shannon G. Metz, 61

Posted 11/8/2018

BURRTON—Shannon G. Metz, 61, of rural Burrton died peacefully at Halstead Health and Rehabilitation on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018.

Shannon was born Aug. 26, 1957 in Hutchinson. She was the oldest child of Charles L. Metz. She was raised by her grandparents, Revae and Cecil Vansickle on a farm in rural Burrton. She lived within a mile of that farm her entire life.

She was a 1975 graduate of Buhler High School.

At different times she was employed in retail sales at Sears, in management at Orschelns and as a Park Ranger at Harvey County West Park. She also farmed. Her cows, horses, goats, a mule, several dogs and cats were her immediate family—all with names and personalities.

Shannon enjoyed all types of outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and froggin’. She also enjoyed barrel racing and golf.

Most important to her were her family and friends she made over the years. She treasured them and kept in contact with them through phone calls, cards and letters. She was always there when anyone needed help.

Shannon was preceded in death by her father, grandparents, and a brother, Sheldon Metz.

Shannon is survived by her sister Marie Metz, Miami, Florida; nephew Joshua Metz, Hutchinson; niece Jana Banker, Santa Monica, California, and many cousins.

Cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to The Humane Society of the United States in care of her cousin, Kent Rudicel, 1700 S. Worthington Rd., Burrton, KS 67020.
