Posted 10/12/2017

By Pilar Martin

BURRTON—The Burrton Chargers fell to a 1-5 record after a loss to South Haven last Friday night.

The game was a close one for the Chargers, closer than the 48-32 score reveals.

Neither team scored in the first quarter. Burrton managed a touchdown in the second quarter, but South Haven led 20-6 at the half.

In the third quarter, the Chargers outscored South Haven 14-8, bringing the score within 8 points. South Haven led 28-20. Burrton scored another 12 points in the fourth, but South Haven prevailed, winning 48-32.

“Even though we lost it was a good game considering the injuries and defections we have suffered,” coach Chris Jensen said. “I am particularly proud of the kids because I preached to them to not pay attention to the scoreboard and just compete, play after play. I feel like they did that and they had fun for one of the first times all year.”

Stat leaders:

Bryce Meacham: 11 Carries for 113 Yards and 1 TD

Michael Rimbey: 12 Carries for 134 Yards and 2 TD

Bradley Cooprider: 3 TD receptions

Burrton hosts Norwich in a conference game this Friday.

“They will be very tough to beat as they have some size,” Jensen said. “We will keep focusing on the one play at a time mentality and try and control the things we can control.”
