HALSTEAD—Halstead athletes medaled in four events at the state track and field meet last weekend at Wichita State University.

The Dragons’ best finish at state was the boys 4x800 relay team, which claimed second (8:15.27). Members of this relay were Dakota Blaylock, Andrew O’Brien, Braden Gerber and Josh Talbott. This time was more than a second faster than Halstead’s first-place state finish in the event last year (8:16.88), which Gerber and Talbott had both been part of.

The girls 4x100 team of Madison McClain, Karenna Gerber, Katylynn Millspaugh and Magdalena McKee won a fourth-place medal (50.45), while Kason O’Neal medaled in sixth place in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 11 inches.

In the 800-meter run, Talbott finished fifth (2:02.75), while B. Gerber was 12th (2:08.77) and Blaylock was 15th (2:21.46).

Both of Halstead’s 4x400 relay teams took ninth. The girls squad of K. Gerber, McClain, Lydia Johnson and McKee finished in 9:14.35, and the boys team of B. Gerber, Kameron Freeman and Talbott had a time of 3:33.50.

The boys 4x100 team of Freeman, Aric Propst, Scott Grider and O’Neal took 11th (45.02).
