SEDGWICK—The Lady Cardinals volleyball team took out Inman and Remington on Tuesday, Oct. 3 to become this year’s Heart of America League Champions. Sedgwick is undefeated at 9-0 in the league. They are 22-6 overall.

“It's been five years since we've been league champs and it feels great to have won it at home, on senior night,” coach Karen Stucky said. “What a special night it was. I just love how this team embraces a challenge.”

Sedgwick defeated Inman in two, 25-23 and 25-11. They defeated Remington in two, 25-21, and 25-11.

“I haven't felt like our defense was very good so we focused heavily on it in practice the last three days and the girls showed drastic improvement last night,” Stucky said. “We had 52 digs on the night.”

Grace Thompson led the team with 21 digs, but Hailey Hill and Kylie Charles showed excellent defensive improvement, Stucky added.

“Offensively we just keep mixing it up and can get kills from all five hitters,” Stucky said. “Our young players continue to improve and look more and more comfortable with each match. I am so proud of this team.”

The team had 50 kills in the two matches. Bailey Zerger had 19 and Taylinn Lacey had 10. Passing was steady all night. Grace Thompson led the team with a 2.39 passing average in serve receive. The team also served extremely tough at 93 percent with 13 aces on the night.

“All of our team members get credit for our team going 9-0 to win the HOA League title,” assistant coach Diane Davison said. “We make each other better in practice each day.”
